HISTORY

At AACS, members are passionate about the significance of AAPI history. They recognize that delving into and understanding AAPI historical narratives is important for promoting representation, social justice, cultural understanding, and political engagement. Members wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to research endeavors and impactful service initiatives.

  • Below is a link for the History Team website, mainly focusing on their efforts in tomb sweeping and memorial service at the Historic Valhalla Cemetery. Members of the history initiative did work to clean up, document, and photograph burial sites at the Chinese cemetery.

  • Chinese Collecting Initiative of Missouri Historical Society Library and Research Center-

    • Members did original research about each Chinese/Asian American community history in St. Louis. These hard working volunteers combed through area high school yearbooks, looking up names in newspaper archives, census records and even death certificates to uncover the secrets of our communities from 100+ years ago. Some interesting discoveries from today— an interracial marriage that was fought for vehemently but ended scandalously, an AAPI family with three sons enlisted for WW2, a womes college that took in international students from Japan, China and the Philippines, and so much more!

  • Fundraising for the Chinese American Collection Initiative

    • The History Team has been fundraising for the Chinese American Collection Initiative of Missouri Historical Society and today they brought their donation of $1000!

    • A generous offer was received- a $1500 match IF we raise another $800. The goal is to use that fund for the repair, preservation, and documentation of the early Chinese graves at Valhalla Cemetery.
